A 69-year-old man was sentenced to a year's jail on Mar. 14 for sexually harassing three female students.

Gan Hee Chit pleaded guilty to two charges of indecent exposure and one charge of molesting an underage girl.

Two more charges were also taken into consideration.

Not the first time he has been convicted for flashing

This was not the first time Gan has been convicted for sexual offences.

In January 2022, he was sentenced to 12 weeks' jail for flashing his private parts to at least five female secondary school students at a bus stop, said the prosecution.

The prosecutor mentioned that Gan also has a previous antecedent of molesting and sexually harassing a 17-year-old female student on a bus, for which he went to prison for seven weeks in April 2019.

Victim thought he needed help walking

The prosecution revealed that Gan had committed his current set of offences shortly after completing his previous stint in jail.

On Mar. 24, 2022, a 12-year-old victim was walking home from school when Gan approached her while holding a walking stick to ask her for directions.

After the victim showed him the way, Gan followed her and used his left hand to grab her right hand with interlocking fingers.

The victim thought he needed help walking and did not let go.

However, Gan started to use his fingers to caress her hand. In shock, she blurted out that she had a boyfriend while breaking free.

Asked the victim when she would menstruate

Gan did not give up and grabbed her hand again, with interlocking fingers, while asking her when she would menstruate.

The victim then told Gan she needed to make a phone call, which led to Gan releasing her hand. She then held onto her handphone with both hands while walking home quickly.

When the victim arrived home, she washed her hands immediately, as she felt dirty after the encounter. She then reported the incident to her mother, who reported the incident to the police.

Flashed himself at two students three months later

Two other female secondary school students fell prey to him three months later, on Jun. 27, in the Sengkang area.

The victims, 16 and 17, were waiting at a bus stop.

Gan saw the 17-year-old victim trying to open a packet of snacks, and he approached her to offer his help.

While attempting to open the packet, Gan asked her several personal questions about her school, age and address.

She only told him she lived in Sengkang, and Gan confirmed which bus services he could take to Sengkang interchange.

When the buses came, he did not take them but kept talking to the girls.

Both students felt uncomfortable but did not dare to leave, fearing he would follow them if they took the next bus.

Asked the student if she wanted a "sugar daddy"

He then continued to ask the 17-year-old if she found him handsome and if she wanted him to be her "sugar daddy".

She said he was handsome in hopes that he would leave them alone.

At one point, he told the victim her shoe was untied, and when both students looked down, they saw his exposed genitals.

He then coaxed the victim to shake hands with him, and when she relented, he squeezed her hands tightly.

When Gan started to turn his attention towards the 16-year-old girl, she called her mother for help.

Her mother asked the girls to leave the bus stop and told them to wait for her at the school.

Gan then fled the scene by boarding a bus.

Prosecution: "Recalcitrant and brazen"

In her sentencing submissions, the prosecutor highlighted that Gan was a "recalcitrant and brazen" sexual offender hiding beneath the facade of a harmless senior citizen, targeting adolescent girls in public places.

"Such behaviour has no place in our society and must be met with the full force of the law," she said.

The judge warned Gan during sentencing that he would face a heavier sentence if he returned to court.

According to Shin Min Daily News, the judge said, "Keep your pants zipped on."
