A can of Milo in a vending machine seen with a Nutri-Grade D sticker was labelled wrongly, Nestle Singapore said in response to a TikTok of the product making the rounds online.

Under Health Promotion Board (HPB)'s grading system, the Nutri-Grade D label on the can of Milo implied that the drink contains the highest amount of sugar and saturated fat.

In the same vending machine, a can of Coke was labelled with a Nutri-Grade B sticker.

The video sparked a range of reactions from viewers.

Some expressed disbelief that Coke could be "healthier" than Milo, while others admitted that they could see the logic behind the rating.

A select few suspected that the Milo drink had simply been labelled incorrectly.

It turns out, this last group is right.

Nestle's statement

A spokesperson from Nestle Singapore, the company behind Milo, stated that all Milo products, whether in powder form or in any of its ready to drink forms, qualify as Nutri-Grade B.

This is because they contain less than 5g of added sugars and less than 1.2g of saturated fat per recommended portion.

As such, they are all “Healthier Choice” certified.

Nestle Singapore is also in the process of adapting their labels to display this piece of nutritional information.

As for the vending machine in the video, the Nestle spokesperson explained that the Nutri-Grade information displayed was inaccurate.

They are reaching out to the parties involved to clarify.

Milo fans can heave a sigh of relief

It looks like Milo fans can enjoy their favourite malted drink without too much guilt for the time being.

But don't forget, this grade is only for the pre-packaged Milo products.
