A mother in Singapore has cause for gratitude after the intervention of several migrant workers who helped to save her daughter's life.

Speaking to The Straits Times (ST), Lim Xiaoli recalled the incident — which took place in November 2022 — while her family was walking back home from Junction 9; they'd had lunch at the mall before leaving separately.

As she was making her way back, the 41-year-old single mother saw that an accident involving two cars, a motorcycle, and two pedestrians had occurred at a car park.

Lim told ST that she saw her elder sister shouting for her attention before she realised that it was her 64-year-old mother and 15-year-old daughter who'd been in the accident.

Her mother was conscious but suffering from a head wound, while her daughter had just been extracted from under the tyres of one of the cars.

Images from the accident showed them lying next to a grey Mazda that had mounted the curb.

They were both conveyed conscious to a hospital.

According to ST, Lim said that she was still in the process of seeking compensation from the driver, a 31-year-old woman who was pregnant at the time.

Workers rushed to help

"I was told that she was trapped under the car and might have died,” Lim said to ST about her daughter.

The 15-year-old girl was helped by six migrant workers who were completing horticultural maintenance in the area.

"Our migrant workers who were nearby immediately rushed over to help and lifted the car and rescued her daughter," wrote Nee Soon GRC Member of Parliament Louis Ng in a Facebook post on Feb. 20.

Ng added that both the elderly woman and teenager have since recovered from the accident.

Lim had reached out to Ng hoping to find a way to thank the workers whom ST identified as Md Abuhaiat Nurnobi, Miah Eadhu, Alam Jahangir, Molla Mohammad Sayem, Belal Md Shababuddin, and Khobir.

A picture accompanying Ng's post showed Lim posing with four of the workers, each with a gift bag in hand.

"Thank you for helping to make Singapore a shining red dot," wrote Ng, in tribute to the workers.
