The start of the planned expansion of Marina Bay Sands (MBS) resort has been delayed yet again.

The resort has to start its S$4.5 billion expansion by Apr. 8, 2024.

This is according to a filing made by the parent company Las Vegas Sands (LVS), dated Mar. 22, 2023.

Second time constructions have been delayed

In April 2019, MBS and the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) signed an agreement for MBS to construct a new development.

The new development would include a new hotel tower with approximately 1,000 rooms and suites, rooftop attractions, convention and meeting facilities, and a live entertainment arena with about 15,000 seats.

Under the agreement, MBS was to begin construction by Apr. 8, 2022.

However, the construction commencement date was to be extended by a year to Apr. 8, 2023.

In February 2023, a report by LVS stated that it did not expect to be able to start on specific construction projects by the agreed deadline of April 2023.

As such, the construction commencement date was pushed back yet again.

The deadline to begin construction is now Apr. 8, 2024, and the completion deadline will be Apr. 8, 2028.
