With cashless payment gaining more widespread adoption in Singapore, cash transactions are slowly becoming a thing of the past. And sometimes, not having enough cash on hand might lead to sticky situations.
For one student though, her situation led to a heartwarming encounter, which she subsequently posted on TikTok.
Grab driver was understanding
The 32-second video was posted by user @hanae_nakaa, with a caption that reads:
"Kind grab driver in Singapore!"
The video started with the driver doing some calculations in Hokkien.
Two RM50 notes could be spotted in the seat next to the driver. Apparently, the Grab driver was willing to accept his fare in Malaysian Ringgit.
As the Grab driver was about to hand the student her change of S$5, Hana corrected him and told him it was "S$2 only".
Hana then asked if he was really fine with it, before proceeding to thank him profusely in Mandarin.
Shared some advice
Before Hana alighted, the driver also shared some advice with her.
He told her to call a taxi later on because she "can use card".
The driver also advised her to withdraw some cash at Maybank, even letting her know that there was an outlet just ahead.
Hana was very grateful for the gesture, as she continued thanking the driver in English and Mandarin.
Reactions
Some commenters applauded the kind act.
While others speculated that the uncle could use the ringgit for other means.
