An "explosion" at the Audi Service Centre in Ubi on March 7 destroyed part of a wall and scattered debris as far as the next compound, according to an eyewitness on the ground.

Mothership reader said he heard a "loud explosion" at around 9am at the Audi Service Centre, which is located at 55 Ubi Road 1.

He described the explosion as a "low and loud sound" that "shook the ground", and it was deafening. The cloud of smoke was white.

According to the reader, the explosion "destroyed a wall" and sent debris "flying" into the neighbouring property, Oxley Bizhub.

Fortunately, he did not personally see anyone injured during the explosion.

"There are usually a lot of cars parked and people entering the office complex where the debris flew to, but it seems to have been empty today," he said.

From the pictures he sent, it was apparent that the explosion was forceful enough to knock down part of a wall likely made of brick.

The hole left gaping by the explosion revealed some kind of machinery within the building, although it is not clear what caused it. The size of the hole was almost two storeys high.

The Mothership reader said vehicles and personnel from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived at the scene after about five minutes.

One injury reported

On March 7 at around 12:20pm, the SCDF shared on their Facebook page an update of the incident.

One person in the vicinity was injured by a fall during the incident and was taken to Raffles Hospital.

100 people were evacuated from the building prior to the SCDF's arrival. No fire was reported by the SCDF, and investigations are ongoing.
