Corrosive substances found in SingPost package, 4 workers report irritation on hands

A package was found to contain corrosive substances at Singapore Post's eCommerce Logistics Hub in Tampines on Mar. 7 at around 4pm, according to Lianhe Zaobao.

It was also reported that the Hub was subsequently cordoned off for over three hours, and nearly 100 individuals had to evacuate the premise.

In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) said four workers who had handled the package reported feeling irritation on their hands and sought treatment at a nearby polyclinic prior to SCDF's arrival.

A 43-year-old man is currently assisting with police investigations, the Singapore Police Force told Mothership.

What happened

According to Zaobao, the package was found on Mar. 7 at SingPost's eCommerce Logistics Hub, located at 37 Greenwich Drive.

In response to Mothership's queries, the SCDF confirmed it was alerted to an incident at 37 Greenwich Drive on Mar. 7 at around 4:10pm.

Upon arrival, SCDF officers donning Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) identified and retrieved a package that had been leaking an unidentified liquid earlier.

The package was placed within a container by SCDF's Hazmat specialists, and several tests were conducted on the contents of the package.

The liquid was identified as a corrosive substance.

The sealed package has since been handed over to the police.

Police investigation ongoing

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) also confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to a call for assistance at about 4pm.

Four men, aged between 17 and 27, sustained minor injuries but refused conveyance.

A 40-year-old man was conveyed conscious to the hospital.

A 43-year-old man is assisting with police investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.

Hub quickly resumed normal operations: SingPost

Speaking to Zaobao, a SingPost spokesperson said the premises resumed normal operations promptly after the incident.

However, the spokesperson explained that the company would not be able to comment further as police investigations are ongoing.
