Man, 64, who attacked man, 48, with cleavers along Jalan Bukit Merah arrested within an hour

The 64-year-old man will be charged in court on Mar. 16.

A 64-year-old man wielding cleavers allegedly attacked a 48-year-old man along Jalan Bukit Merah on Tuesday (Mar.14).

At about 11:30am on Mar. 14, the police were alerted to a case of assault along Jalan Bukit Merah.

Through ground enquires, CCTV footage and police cameras, officers from the Central Police Division established the identity of the 64-year-old man and arrested him within an hour of the report.

The police stated that through preliminary investigations, it was revealed that both men knew each other.

Two cleavers, one around 12.5 inches and the other around 10.7 inches in length, were seized.

The 64-year-old man will be charged in court on Thursday (Mar. 16) with voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or caning, or any combination of such punishments.

The police reminded the public that those who endanger the public's sense of safety and security will be dealt with firmly.
