Thanks to Covid-19, 2020 was considered a year of many losses.

One example was the lost chance to see our favourite musicians perform in person.

A Mothership reader was especially disappointed with the seemingly perpetual postponement of 98 Degrees' Singapore show.

1st postponement

The American pop and R&B group was originally meant to drop by Singapore as part of their Asia tour in 2020.

They were slated to perform at The Star Theatre on Feb. 20, 2020.

Due to Covid-19, the entire Asia tour — and with it, the Singapore concert — was postponed.

LAMC Productions announced the postponement two weeks before the show.

At that time, fans were understanding.

Facebook user Radiyah Ryssa G Ibrahim commented, "With the current outbreak of coronavirus better be safe...their health is our priority concern...well at least it’s postphone [sic] not cancelled!"

On Feb. 13, 2020, LAMC Productions announced that "An Evening with 98 Degrees" had been rescheduled for May. 19, 2020.

When asked about refunds, the event organiser asked people to "stay tuned".

2nd postponement

On Apr. 28, 2020, LAMC Productions once again had fans sighing when they announced that the show was once again postponed.

No refund, no updates

Now back to the disgruntled Mothership reader.

She paid S$296 for a pair of tickets, and a S$8 booking fee.

When the concert was first postponed, LAMC Productions stated that a refund period would be opened soon.

However, the reader said that when there continued to be radio silence on the band's return to Singapore, she reached out to inquire about a refund in March 2021.

She was asked to hang tight and wait for updates.

Stay tuned part three, this time from Sistic

After no news for another year, she was told by Sistic in August 2022 to contact LAMC Productions instead, as they were apparently the ones holding the funds.

"Sistic told me that LAMC production was holding the funds for refund, but when I wrote a refund request (I even called the organiser company), there no response at all. From the official website in 2020, Sistic was the one handling the refund on behalf of events organisers.

Sistic told me that they escalated the issue to the managers, but every time I called them, I needed to repeat the same old thing again and again with no hope for refund. I'm sure I'm not the only one facing this issue. Totally disappointed that it was not well managed. Holding onto our ticket money without response."

Another customer that Mothership spoke to said she was able to get her tickets refunded right after she got in touch with Sistic.

Sistic: Refunds require approval from concert organisers

In response to Mothership's query, a Sistic spokesperson said that they do not have any information about a rescheduled date for the concert.

Sistic only processes refunds on a "case-by-case basis" whenever a request was made, and only with the approval from LAMC Productions which is the concert organiser.

"We are working closely with LAMC Productions on refund requests and will announce any new show dates once further details are available," the spokesperson added.

Mothership has reached out to LAMC for comment.
