The hawker running the famous Soon Li Yong Tau Foo at Bukit Merah View Market & Hawker Centre, also known as "Bukit Merah Midnight Yong Tau Foo" to the supper-consuming crowd in Singapore, has passed away suddenly.

News of the hawker's passing was announced on Facebook on Feb. 22.

The post read: "I received news of famous Bukit Merah View Hawker Center Soon Li Yong Tau foo uncle pass on this morning. Rip uncle."

The cause of death was not mentioned.

Soon Li Yong Tau Foo was closed for a period of time during the pandemic.

It reopened recently with new operating hours from 9pm or so.

Previously, Soon Li Yong Tau Foo was opened at around midnight and catered to diners during the graveyard shift until about 3am or when stock runs out.

Customers were frequently seen crowding at the hawker stall before 11:30pm to prepare to place orders when the stall started service.

The stall served its food in its signature metal bowls.
