A 45-year-old man, who was apparently drunk, was arrested following a scuffle at a supermarket in People's Park Complex on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 13.

The police said they were alerted to a fight at 1 Park Road at about 2:30pm and a man was taken to hospital and later arrested for affray.

Videos of the incident put up online showed that the fight occurred at the flagship outlet of Scarlett Supermarket in Chinatown, which is open 24 hours.

The chain, which has 15 outlets islandwide, primarily sells products and groceries imported from China.

The arrested man was seen in a black t-shirt.

He was wrestling with a store employee.

Other store employees used baskets to hit the man in an attempt to break up the fight.

Onlookers then stepped in to subdue the man.

Subsequent videos showed police officers at the scene.

According to an employee interviewed by Shin Min Daily News, the arrested man had allegedly slapped a supermarket employee in his drunken stupor while queuing to pay for items.

He allegedly threw his items on the ground and demanded the staff pick them up.

When the staff refused, the man allegedly assaulted him.

The employee also said the man reeked of alcohol, and he allegedly eventually admitted that he had drank the night before.

The drunk man, in a black t-shirt, could be seen wrestling with another man wearing a grey t-shirt.

The man in the grey t-shirt is reported by Shin Min to be an off-duty staff member.

The cashiers were seen hitting the drunk man with a basket.

It eventually took four men to pin the drunk man down.

When the drunk man was restrained, the fourth man who was holding his head down got up.

He bent down to hit the drunk man on the head once, before another man raised his hand and told him to stop his actions.

After the man was subdued, he could be heard yelling in Mandarin.
