Electric vehicle (EV) car owners now have access to more charging points.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has opened the first set of fully operational charging points for EVs under its large-scale tender in Telok Blangah and Boon Lay.

Locations of EV charging points

The newly-launched EV charging points at Telok Blangah and Boon Lay are operated by ChargEco and Charge+, respectively.

The first batch includes six charging points, and each carpark has three charging points.

ChargEco's charging points can be found at Blk 80 Telok Blangah St 31's multi-storey carpark, according to their Facebook post.

A quick search on Google Maps reveals Charge+'s charging stations to be at 212A Boon Lay Place.

To utilise these charging points, both companies require EV users to download the companies' respective apps.

More charging points will be ready at other HDB carparks in the coming months, The Straits Times reported.

Ready by end 2023

The large-scale tender will provide charging points for almost 2,000 HDB carparks.

The Government hopes to deploy 2,000 more charging points in about one third of HDB carparks islandwide by the end of this year.

As the EV population in Singapore increases, LTA stated that it is able to deploy at least 12,000 charging points by 2025.

Electric car registrations formed 11.8 per cent of all new car registrations in 2022.

Currently, Singapore has more than 6,500 registered electric cars, and nearly 10,000 EVs including other vehicle classes.

As part of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, the government has plans to install 60,000 charging points across Singapore by 2030.

20,000 of these will be installed at private premises including condominiums and private apartments, while the remaining 40,000 will be installed at public carparks.

Managed by a subsidiary

The EV charging points are managed by EV-Electric Charging Pte Ltd, a subsidiary wholly-owned by LTA.

It will oversee the deployment of EV charging points across the public carparks.

According to LTA, EV-Electric Charging will work closely with the five successful tenderers and government agencies to plan and manage the deployment of EV charging points.

They will also coordinate the upgrading of supporting electrical infrastructure for EV charging.
