Kirshnik Khari Ball, an American rapper known as Takeoff, was shot and killed in Houston, Texas in the U.S. on Nov. 1 (Singapore time).

He was 28.

Social media rumours emerged that Ball had been shot. A video showed a man lying on a floor, with bloodstains around him.

The man was apparently dressed in the same clothes Ball was seen in a previous Instagram story.

As of 7:00pm on Nov. 1 (Singapore time), the InstaStory is just five hours old.

American celebrity news outlet TMZ reported that the prone man seen in the video was Ball.

The other man seen in the video, dressed in an orange shirt, was identified by TMZ as Quavious Keyate Marshall, who is another member of Migos. Marshall is also Ball's uncle.

"We're told Takeoff and Quavo were there playing dice when an altercation broke out and that's when someone opened fire, shooting Takeoff ... either in the head or near to his head. He was pronounced dead on the scene."

Migos is regarded as one of the most successful and influential rap groups in history, and certainly since the 2010s, according to the New Yorker.

Together with Kiari Kendrell Cephus, known as Offset, who is Marshall's cousin, the trio had multiple number one albums in the U.S.
