Haidilao is celebrating its 10th year in Singapore with a new outlet at Northshore Plaza in Punggol.

This outlet, however, is slightly different from your usual Haidilao—it is the hotpot chain's first "smart" restaurant in the country.

Although the Marina Square outlet, opened in 2019, already incorporates some technological elements like a multimedia experience and an automatic soup machine, the Northshore Plaza outlet sees these aspects "fully upgraded".

A quick tour around the Northshore Plaza space:

Intelligent Food Room

One of the highlights is the Intelligent Food Room, a cold room maintained 0-4°C that houses a number of robot arms.

Once a customer places an order via the iPad, the order is sent to the Intelligent Food Room management system, where the robot arms will pick out the dishes and send it to a sorting area.

The process is supposed to help in maintaining the freshness of the ingredients, as well as minimising potential risks of bacteria transmission from human food handling.

Each dish also comes with unique RFID (radio-frequency identification), similar to an having an ID card, which allows for real-time tracking.

All dishes at the sorting area will be quality-checked by internal staff before being served, Haidilao added.

If you're visiting the outlet, you can actually view the Intelligent Food Room through a glass screen near the restaurant's entrance.

While the automatic soup machine may not be entirely new, it's good to know that you can extensively customise your soup base with options like less oil, less salt and even sediment removal.
