Man, 77, arrested within 2 hours of allegedly swinging chopper at another man at Bendemeer hawker centre

A 77-year-old man was allegedly seen at Bendemeer Market and Food Centre at dinner time on March 16 looking like he was going to use a chopper during a reported fight with another man.

The clash at 29 Bendemeer Road happened at about 6.55pm.

The man will be charged on Friday, March 18 with criminal intimidation and possession of an offensive weapon.

The police said on March 18 that they received multiple calls about the alleged altercation.

When the police arrived at the scene, both men had left.

With the help of police cameras, the man allegedly seen holding a chopper was arrested within two hours of the incident.

Early investigations found that the 77-year-old man had allegedly swung a chopper during the fight with the other man.

The chopper did not hit anyone.

The man may be jailed up to two years or fined, or both, if found guilty of criminal intimidation.

Anyone convicted of having in possession an offensive weapon in a public place may be jailed up to three years and given six strokes of the cane.

Those above the age of 50 cannot be caned.
