Legendary Japanese cooking show "Iron Chef" will soon be returning to our screens, according to an announcement by Netflix.

I'll allow you a moment to let that sink in.

"Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend"

According to the January 2022 announcement, the eight-episode series will make its comeback later this year on the streaming platform in the United States; no details were given on if or when it would be available in Singapore.

It will be named "Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend".

"Five new trailblazing Iron Chefs will welcome brave Challenger Chefs to the reimagined Kitchen Stadium, where they'll face off and be pushed to the limits of endurance and creativity, as they cook up extraordinary culinary creations," said Netflix.

The most successful Challenger Chef will then return in the show's finale for one final cook-off and to earn a shot at the title of "Iron Legend".

The mysterious Chairman Kaga

So far there is no news on whether the mysterious Chairman Kaga — who in the show's lore was the wealthy and eccentric mastermind who conceived the Kitchen Stadium — will return to host this latest series and the show's IMDB page is currently skinny on the details.

However, the new "Iron Chef" will be produced by Keller Productions and 3 Ball Productions, two American production companies.

Perhaps fans of "Iron Chef America" can hold out hope for a homecoming of Mark Dacascos instead.

The original Japanese series won fans the world over for its groundbreaking — and frankly absurd — combination of cooking, sports broadcasting production, and storytelling.

International chefs would arrive in Chairman Kaga's Kitchen Stadium, ready to test themselves against one of the four Iron Chefs, with each episode involving a different ingredient that the contestant's dishes must incorporate.

"And if ever a challenger wins over the Iron Chef, he or she will gain the people's ovation and fame forever," announces a narrator at the start of each show.

"Every battle, reputations are on the line in Kitchen Stadium where master chefs pit their artistic creations against each other... the heat will be on!"
