A new cafe has joined the Lavender neighbourhood today (Sep. 1).
Visually, Glacier is clean and minimalist, dominated by shades of white.
Its botanical theme comes through in the menu, where mains are garnished with their own herbs and the gelatos take on floral and plant-inspired flavours.
It's standard cafe prices here, but there is no GST and service charge.
The menu
The selection is straightforward: Mains, drinks, and dessert.
Some items that stand out are the:
- Smoked Salmon & Avocado Toast (S$19)
- Salmon Mentaiko Truffle Grain Bowl (S$20)
- Pandan Mochi Waffle with Gula Melaka & Coconut (from S$12)
- Babka with Gelato (S$7 - S$17.50)
The babka is an Eastern European bake. In this case, the cake comes in three flavours: chocolate, black sesame, and matcha white chocolate.
For our media session, we had the Smoked Salmon & Avocado Toast, Pandan Mochi Waffle, as well as kombucha tea, which the owner says is brewed in-house.
For the savoury item, we appreciate the touch of finely diced onions that helps to cut through the brioche and salmon.
The Pandan Mochi Waffle is an interesting alternative to the usual buttermilk waffles, with stretchy, chewy mochi incorporated into the batter.
The elements of gula melaka sauce and shredded coconut make it a "deconstructed ondeh-ondeh" of sorts.
No complaints about the passion fruit and mint kombucha (S$9) either, which was a nice complement to the meal.
The ice cube is also made from kombucha to ensure that the drink doesn't eventually turn diluted.
However, spending S$9 on a drink is what young people would call a mood, and we're definitely not in this mood all the time.
Overall an appealing addition to the neighbourhood—and probably to your Instagram feed.
