Singapore Premiere League (SPL) club Balestier Khalsa FC has sacked its captain and first choice goalkeeper Zaiful Nizam following an internal disciplinary inquiry.

Contract terminated "with immediate effect"

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Aug. 18), the club said that it has terminated Zaiful's contract "with immediate effect".

It is understood that Zaiful was in the second year of a two-year deal, according to The Straits Times.

He has seven days to appeal against the decision.

Refused to play in match

On Monday (Aug. 16), Balestier announced that they had suspended Zaiful after he refused to play in an SPL match against Young Lions on Saturday (Aug. 14) "when called upon to play".

Balestier's other goalkeeper Zacharial Leong took to the field instead.

The club eventually lost 4-2 to the Young Lions.

Club is second last on the table

Balestier is 7th in the SPL table.

The club's next match will be against Tampines Rovers at the Toa Payoh Stadium later today (Aug. 19).
