China's central city of Wuhan will test all of its residents for Covid-19.

This was announced by city government official Li Tao during a news briefing on Tuesday (Aug. 3), according to Reuters.

He said that Wuhan, which has a population of 11 million, is "swiftly launching comprehensive nucleic acid testing of all residents".

New cases emerged

The announcement came after local Covid-19 cases resurfaced in the city for the first time since June 2020.

Global Times reported that on Monday (Aug. 2), Wuhan recorded seven local Covid-19 cases.

An immigrant worker had contacted with a tourist group from Huaian, a city in East China's Jiangsu Province that's experiencing a Covid-19 flare-up, while he was waiting for a train at the Jiangzhou High-speed Railway Station in Wuhan on Friday (July 30).

He was later identified during a screening campaign on Sunday (Aug. 1) night.

Six of his close contacts had also tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday (Aug. 2), according to Global Times.
