Former United States president Donald Trump was booed by his supporters after urging them to take the Covid-19 vaccine jab.

He was speaking at a rally at Alabama where most of the attendees were not wearing masks.

In his speech, he recommended his supporters to take the Covid-19 jab as, according to him, he took it and it was all good, NBC News reported.

"I believe totally in your freedoms. I do. You've got to do what you have to do," Trump said.

"But I recommend take the vaccines. I did it. It's good. Take the vaccines," he added.

Soon after he said that, the crowd booed him but he reiterated that they have their freedom to be vaccinated or not.

"No, that's ok. That's all right. You got your freedoms," Trump said after being booed.

"If it doesn't work, you'll be the first to know. Ok? I'll call up Alabama, I'll say, hey, you know what? But the vaccine is working. But you do have your freedoms you have to keep. You have to maintain that," he added.

Alabama has the lowest vaccination rate in the U.S.

Across the U.S., Alabama's vaccination rate is the lowest with only 35.9 per cent of the population fully vaccinated, according to AL, Alabama's local news agency.

Compared to the national level, 51 per cent of the U.S. population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

The report added that in one hospital, Mobile Infirmary hospital, 41 per cent of the hospital's 480 patient are Covid-19 positive.

Susan Boudreau, president of the hospital, told AL that the situation was overwhelming its staff and physicians.

“They see people suffering and dying. We don’t feel the world understands what is happening behind our walls and hospitals,” she said.
