Stage 2 of the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL2) is opening on August 28.

In the lead up to it, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will be organising a series of open house activities from August 23 to 27 .

These activities will be conducted virtually because of the evolving Covid-19 situation, said LTA.

The virtual open house will be held on Facebook and will feature behind-the-scenes interviews with TEL2 engineers and architects, as well as station tours with personalities from King Kong Media.

You can also expect do-it-yourself upcycling workshops and attractive prizes daily.

About TEL2

The six new stations that are opening on the Thomson-East Coast Line are Springleaf, Lentor, Mayflower, Bright Hill, Upper Thomson, and Caldecott.

They will serve residents in the Thomson area. Caldecott station is also an interchange on the Circle Line, providing more rail connectivity for commuters.

The TEL2 is also expected to shorten travel time, said LTA:

"For example, a Sin Ming resident travelling to Republic Polytechnic will have his journey time halved, from the current 50 minutes via bus and train to 25 minutes by TEL.

Similarly, a resident staying in the Mayflower area will be able to get to Jurong East in 40 minutes by train, as compared to 60 minutes via bus and train today."

When the Thomson-East Coast Line is fully operational in the future, residents who live along the line will have a faster and more direct option to travel towards the city centre via the train.

It is expected to serve about 500,000 commuters daily in the initial years, increasing to about one million commuters in the longer term.
