Team S'pore to compete in Tokyo Paralympic Games starting Aug. 24

The Tokyo Olympics might have been over for several weeks, but for athletes competing in the upcoming Tokyo Paralympics, the games are just about to begin.

The Tokyo Paralympic Games will take place from Aug. 24 to Sep. 5.

10 athletes

Team Singapore this year comprises 10 athletes representing the country across six sports. The athletes are:

  • Sophie Soon, swimming
  • Yip Pin Xiu, swimming
  • Toh Wei Soong, swimming
  • Nur Syahidah Alim, archery
  • Maximillian Tan, equestrian
  • Laurentia Tan and Gemma Rose Foo, equestrian
  • Steve Tee and ACP Ang Kee Meng, cycling
  • Md Diroy Noordin, athletics

The first batch of para-athletes and officials departed Singapore on Aug. 19, while the second batch joined them on Aug. 22.

In the last three Games, Yip, Laurentia Tan and Theresa Goh won a total of three golds, two silvers and four bronzes.

Goh however, will not be joining the rest of the athletes this year. She announced in 2019 that she would be ending her swimming career after 20 years.
