A woman in Singapore was seen on camera casually strolling along the road in a private housing estate and then allegedly stealing a delivered item hung at the gate of one of the properties.

Footage of the incident was put up on Facebook on Aug. 27.

The victim wrote on the post's caption: "Someone stole my delivered items!! Knn!!😁😄😃"

What video showed

The 1-minute video showed the footage taken from a closed-circuit television camera located inside the property pointed at the front gate.

A woman with face mask on could be seen initially strolling past the house.

She then turned back momentarily to eye the package hanging by the gate but walked off.

The item was delivered in a paper bag.

After she was out of frame for about 20 seconds, she returned to the house to inspect the item hanging by the gate.

She then walked up to the item, which was hung on the inside of the gate, lifted it off and appeared to read the content on the package, before casually strolling off.

Responses

Within six hours of the video going up, multiple commenters have urged the victim to make a police report.

However, in the comments section, the victim said in response that he was still contemplating whether to make a police report.

Other commenters urged him to print out images of the woman and put them up in the estate as a form of "Wanted" posters and to warn neighbours about an alleged thief on the prowl.

At least one commenter said the victim can choose to not report the incident if the item is of low value or food, and treat it as forfeited.

Item delivered to wrong house

Following publication of this article, a resident of Macpherson Garden Estate wrote in to Mothership.sg to clarify that the whole incident is a misunderstanding.

The resident, who is the actual recipient of the delivered item, wrote that the woman seen removing the package is her helper who was tasked to retrieve the delivery that was sent to the wrong house a few doors down from her house.

This explained why the woman appeared to check the content on the package while standing outside the gate.

The item, the actual recipient wrote, is a candle parcel.

She wrote: "Delivery man called me when I was out and mentioned that nobody was home, so he will place the parcel outside my gate."

"When I got home, I realised that the parcel wasn't delivered to me, so I contacted the delivery man," she wrote.

The resident a few doors down was then told the deliveryman had sent the parcel to another unit instead and so "he asked me to retrieve it on my own".

She explained: "Thus, I sent my helper there. However, nobody is home so she just took it off right from the gate."

"I have already notified the owner via Facebook messenger and also got my friend -- the one who sent the parcel to me -- to clarify with him."
