On Sunday afternoon (Aug. 15), residents at 209 Serangoon Central were rudely interrupted by a strong scent of smoke.
Recycling bin on fire
According to Mothership reader Vaishnavi Selvakumar, a recycling bin at the block was on fire around the afternoon of Aug. 15.
While the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was contacted, several residents worked together to find a fire extinguisher in an attempt to put out the fire.
Residents help out
Vaishnavi said that they obtained one from a 7-Eleven nearby and another from one of the neighbour's house.

However, the fire extinguishers weren't enough.
Fortunately, the SCDF came in time to stop the fire.
In a statement to Mothership, SCDF said that the fire involved contents of a recycling bin.
