SCDF rappeller rescues elderly woman from Jurong HDB flat kitchen ledge

The Singapore Civil Defence Force were activated to rescued an elderly woman from the ledge of an HDB block.

A video of the incident, which appears to have been taken from a nearby HDB block, was circulated online and then put up in the Sg Chinese Community Facebook group on Monday (Aug. 23).

The video shows a SCDF personnel rappelling down the exterior of the block.

Other personnel was seen holding onto the woman from inside the unit.

In a video shared with Mothership, the SCDF rescuer was seen holding onto the woman's legs and helping her into the unit as another firefighter pulled her in.

The incident took place around 10:35am on Aug. 20.

SCDF response

In response to Mothership's queries, SCDF said they received a call for assistance at Block 113 Tao Ching Road.

Upon arrival, an elderly woman was seen perched on a ledge outside her kitchen.

SCDF deployed one safety life air pack as a precautionary measure, while SCDF firefighters held on to her from the window.

A Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) rescuer was deployed from a unit above.

The elderly woman was brought safely into the unit through the kitchen window with the assistance from other firefighters.

No injuries were reported, SCDF said.
