An adjunct lecturer at Republic Polytechnic received a heartwarming parting gesture of gratitude from his class at the end of the semester.

The show of gratitude took place during an online lesson, and was captured in a Aug. 13 TikTok post which attracted over 17,000 likes and over 115,000 views.

The post starts with a student telling the lecturer that the class has "something" for him, which he responds to with a look of surprise.

Students then began to switch on their video cameras in preparation for the reveal of what they planned:

At the count of three, students then flashed handwritten "thank you" signs.

Some of the messages were written on paper, while others were etched on phone screens and tablets.

The lecturer reciprocated with gestures of appreciation as well, and commented that the gesture made him "want to cry".

First time switching on cameras

The lecturer also remarked that this was the first time that many students had switched on their cameras, and playfully jibed that he was proud of them for finally doing so after 13 weeks.

Dismissing the class for the final time

The post then showed the poignant scene of the lecturer dismissing the class for the final time that semester.

The significance of the occasion was not lost on him, as he left the class with some parting words:

"Thank you for a good time, I really enjoyed teaching your class. You guys are fun."

And signed off with a thumbs up to the camera.

Lecturer recognised by many

Many of the comments on the post were made in response to the students' gesture of thanks toward their lecturer.

There were also a number of comments from the lecturer's past students, who identified him as Rick Low, and shared their positive experiences learning from him as well.

There was even a comment from someone who worked with him in a hotel previously.

Sweet.
