The police have arranged for a video call between the 16-year-old River Valley High School (RVHS) suspect and his parents.
Video call between suspect and his parents
The call took place earlier today (Aug. 13), according to a spokesperson from the Attorney-General's Chambers.
Previously, at the suspect's court hearing on Aug. 10, his parents had requested to communicate with him via a video session.
District Judge Brenda Tan rejected the video call request then, explaining that such arrangements could be made at an appropriate time.
The suspect was remanded for two weeks in the Complex Medical Centre and Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for the completion of psychological evaluation and forensic assessment.
He will return to court on Aug. 24.
Charged with murder
The teen was charged with murdering a 13-year-old boy inside the toilet located at level 4 of Block D in River Valley High School between 11:16am and 11:44am on July 19.
While the penalty for murder includes death, an accused who is under 18 at the time of offence cannot be sentenced to death.
Instead, he or she can be sentenced to life imprisonment.
