Man, 28, arrested for allegedly raping woman, 52, in Toa Payoh

He was arrested 10 hours later at a residential unit in Ang Mo Kio.

A 28-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a case of aggravated rape on Aug. 20.

He will be charged in court on Saturday, Aug. 21.

According to the police release, they were alerted to a case where a 52-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted by an unknown man in a building in Toa Payoh.

The woman suffered minor injuries during the incident while the man fled the scene thereafter.

About 10 hours later, the man was arrested at a residential unit in Ang Mo Kio with the assistance of police cameras and CCTV footage.

Police officers from the Tanglin Police Division, Criminal Investigation Department, Public Transport Security Command and Police Operations Command Centre worked closely together on the case, the release stated.

The man will be charged in court with aggravated rape under Section 375(1A)(a) punishable under Section 375(3)(a)(i) of the Penal Code.

A court order will be sought to remand the man for further investigations.

If convicted, the offence of aggravated rape carries an imprisonment term between eight and 20 years and shall be punishable with caning of not less than 12 strokes.
