In celebration of the nation's birthday, Singapore lifestyle brand Supermama launched the Otters Rice Grain Porcelain collection on their webstore over the weekend (Aug. 20).
The blue-and-white porcelain wares are given a modern take with otters depicted in a yin-yang motif, set against Chinese symbols of the bat (symbolising fortune) and the character "工" ("labour").
If the design looks familiar, it's because it was borrowed from a photo taken by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
There are five pieces in the collection:- Noodle bowl
- Round plate
- Rice bowl
- Saucer
- Round side plate
Each piece of porcelain is fired from Jingdezhen, a city in China that is also known as the "porcelain capital" thanks to its history of producing Chinese ceramics.
No two pieces are exactly the same, as the wares are all made by hand.
Prices
With all the factors listed above, retail-savvy folks would already know that these wares will not come cheap.
Sold in sets of two or four, prices start from S$32 and go up to S$60 per set.
For the month of August, there's a 20 per cent discount, so you should probably snag them now if you're intending to buy it.
You can check out the collection on the webstore, or picture it in your home here:
