Realising that I’ve grown to become more like my mum is a part of my adulthood.

I’m not referring to our physical appearance but certain daily habits that I picked up as a working adult.

Among these include starting the day with at least a cup of Kopi-O, frequenting FairPrice, with or without a grocery list, and collecting reward points when I shop.

What comes with adulthood is this need to save because earning money is not easy and saving money is harder.

Which is why I am obsessed with collecting points.

Parent’s influence

Collecting points comes intuitively as that’s what I've observed my parents doing since young.

“Member?” The FairPrice cashier would always ask before my parents flashed out the Plus! card.

Occasionally, they might get mildly irritated when they missed the chance to clock their LinkPoints by letting out a “tsk”.

So, what’s the use of these points?

For my mum, LinkPoints can be used to offset her purchases at the counter.

Second nature to collect points

In all honesty, I’m not surprised that I started collecting points.

In the past, it was for the free extra topping and free drink at the 10th stamp when buying bubble tea.

Now, the ability to offset spending has become an irresistible perk because adulthood 101: Never miss a chance to save money.

Ultimately, the obsession with collecting points is rooted from the increased awareness to save as I started earning my keep.

A couple of my friends and colleagues have multiple credit cards for different purposes just to maximise savings through discounts or miles accumulation.

I even encountered some aunties who waited to collect “stamps” from shoppers exiting a supermarket which can be used to redeem free items too.

If you like to save some money through points collection like me, you cannot miss out on LinkPoints.
