Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is said to submit his resignation to the Agong on Aug. 16, 2021.
Reportedly submitting resignation on Aug. 16
According to Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, Muhyiddin announced his decision to Bersatu members of parliament (MP) at the Perikatan Nasional (PN) headquarters on the morning of Aug. 15.
In a report by MalaysiaKini, Redzuan said that Muhyiddin will hold a "special cabinet meeting" on Aug. 16 before going to the Istana Negara to submit his resignation.
During the internal announcement on Aug. 15, he apparently told the MPs that he had exhausted all avenues to sustain his administration and resigning was the last resort.
Statutory declarations apparently signed supporting Ismail Sabri
In a report by The Vibes, sources apparently said that as of Aug. 15, statutory declarations are signed to support UMNO member and current Deputy Prime Minister Ismail Sabri as the next Prime Minister, and Bersatu member and current Home Affairs Minister Hamzah Zainudin as the next Deputy Prime Minister.

It is a busy Sunday for our top leaders as sources say SDs are being signed to support Umno’s @IsmailSabri60 as PM and Bersatu’s @dhzhamzah as DPM.
This follows this morning’s Bersatu meeting where @MuhyiddinYassin reportedly said he will offer his resignation tomorrow.
Muhyiddin has served as Malaysia's eighth prime minister since March 2020, following the resignation of Mahathir Mohamad.
If his resignation is accepted on Aug. 16, he will be Malaysia's shortest-serving prime minister having served only 17 months.
