Malaysia recently medalled in the Tokyo Olympics in the badminton men's doubles event, beating a team from Indonesia in the bronze medal match.

Like many Malaysian politicians, Mohammad Fauzi Yusoff decided to congratulate the winning pair, albeit in an unusual way.

The PAS member posted an image of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik celebrating their victory on Facebook, but with their knees and legs blurred out.

The post appears to have been taken down, but not before Malaysians noticed it.

Netizens' response

Yusoff's post drew flak from Malaysian netizens on Reddit and others.

Some also pointed out that the politician could have simply shared a photo that did not feature the athletes' bare knees.

One guy pointed out that the same thing previously happened to the popular manga Attack on Titan.

Not the first M'sian Olympians to be censored

This was not the first time Malaysian Olympians have had images of themselves censored, in fact, it is the second of such at the Tokyo Olympics alone.

In a recent report by Sinar Harian, the news outlet published a partially censored image of Malaysian diver Cheong Jun Hoong in action.

The photo showed the gluteus maximus of the diver pixelated while the rest of her body was visible.

Similarly, the incident also drew flak from Malaysian netizens, many called out Sinar Harian for disrespecting the athlete.

M'sian Senior Minister went with the uncensored photo

In contrast, Senior Minister in charge of Security Hishammuddin Hussein decided to go with the original photo when sharing his delight on social media.

He congratulated the badminton duo for their victory, and also acknowledged the coaches' contribution in their Olympic journey.
