Locked himself & kids in room

The incident took place in his ninth floor residence at Block 218A Boon Lay Avenue.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that the man was in a heightened emotional state when he threatened to harm himself and his kids, aged six and eight.

It is suspected that the incident was triggered by an argument with his wife.

The police told Mothership that they responded to a call for assistance at about 6:45pm on Aug. 20.

Officers from the Crisis Negotiation Unit, Special Operations Command, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were deployed to the scene.

According to Wanbao, a negotiator spoke to the man for five hours.

Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) rappellers were also on standby as a precautionary measure.

The police successfully entered the residence at 11:40pm and arrested the man for criminal intimidation.
