A 36-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced to nine months' jail and fined S$4,500 for biting, choking, and tying up his young son.

The man, who cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the victim's identity, had pleaded guilty to two charges of ill treatment of a child, one charge of voluntarily causing hurt, and one charge of harassment, according to The Straits Times.

Another five charges were taken into consideration during his sentencing.

If the man cannot pay his fine, he will have to serve 20 more days in jail, Today reported.

Bit son's thigh

The man has two sons with his wife.

In November 2018, his wife brought their sons, aged five and one then, to the polyclinic for vaccinations, CNA reported.

While her sons were playing, the older boy bit his younger brother's thigh. The man's wife told him about the incident later that day.

To discipline his son, the man caned the five-year-old boy and bit his thigh, so that he would feel how painful it was to be bitten.

A month later, the same boy was brought to a hospital for a planned visit.

While there, the medical staff admitted the boy over concerns of non-accidental injury.

A staff nurse had also observed the man handling the boy roughly.

He had grabbed his son and forced him to lie down while holding down his legs, Yahoo reported.

The examining doctor also found injuries on the boy.

Choked his son

In March 2019, as the man was driving his van to collect some parcels, his son vomited in the van.

The man got angry and argued with his wife while still in the van.

According to ST, he later grabbed his son and lifted him up by the neck and back, causing him to choke.

CNA reported that the man then put his hands around the boy's neck and shook him. The boy ended up crying and screaming.

Tied his son's hands with a bicycle hook

A passerby saw what happened and called the police.

The man then tied the boy’s hands together with a bicycle hook to restrain him in the van. He subsequently drove away.

According to CNA, the police managed to trace the man's identity with the van's registration number provided by the eyewitness.

The boy was then taken to hospital and admitted for six days. He was six years old at the time of this incident.

In the hospital, the boy was found to have bruises, abrasions, and a missing left lower incisor, Yahoo reported.

He was later discharged into the care of his maternal grandmother.

Son assessed to have global development delay

Today reported that the boy was placed in Mindsville@Napari after the incident.

He was assessed to have global development delay.

He was also initially aggressive and disruptive, but his behaviour has since improved.

Wife stabbed him in the chest

In July 2019, the man got into another incident after his wife accused him of having an affair.

According to ST, the man threw a chair at her but missed.

She then ran towards him and bit his right shoulder.

The man retaliated and bit her arms.

She then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him in the chest, according to Today.

The police were called and the couple was subsequently arrested.

The man's wife has been charged in court and her case is pending.

Unrelated road rage incident

The man was also involved in an unrelated road rage incident in July 2018, CNA reported.

He had cursed at and pointed his middle finger at a bus driver.
