In early August 2021, football star Lionel Messi bid farewell to Spanish club FC Barcelona after 21 years.
Messi attended a press conference on Aug. 8 to give an emotional farewell speech.
The tissue
At the start of the press conference, Messi's wife Antonela Roccuzzo gave him a piece of tissue after he started tearing up.
Messi was seen wiping his nose with the tissue paper before he started to speak.
Auctioned it for USD1 million
According to Gulf Today, someone purportedly picked up the used tissue and auctioned it online for US$1 million (S$1.3 million).
It was reportedly advertised on Mercado Libre, an Argentinian online marketplace.
The advertisement appears to have been deleted, but here's a screenshot of it:

The anonymous seller had also claimed, according to Gulf Today, that the tissue contains Messi’s "genetic material", which can be used to clone another Messi.
