Unfortunately, Aug. 22 was Lai Lai Kitchen's last day of operations.

The eatery is known for serving up affordable wanton mee and roasted pork and duck rice.

Owner put his heart and soul into eatery

The daughter of Lai Lai Kitchen's owner, Susan See, revealed in a Facebook post that the homegrown eatery had been in operation for over 20 years at Jurong Point, and was one of the mall's "pioneer" tenants.

However, as her father is retiring, the family made the tough decision to close the shop down.

See shared that the eatery was one where her father had put in "101%" of his "heart and soul" to provide the best for his customers.

Running Lai Lai Kitchen involved working 363 days a year and toiling for long hours each day, waking up at 4am and ending the day at 10pm.

Many in the comments section bemoaned the closure of the eatery, with some sharing their fond memories of visiting the place when working in the vicinity, or when heading to and fro from university or nearby enrichment classes.

See said that Lai Lai Kitchen will not be opening elsewhere.

In the meantime, her father and family thanked everyone who had patronised their eatery over the decades.
