A King of Fried Rice customer recently took to their Facebook page to claim that she was sold a half-eaten packet of fried rice by another customer.

What happened

The customer said that she encountered a woman, who looked to be around 60, carrying two boxes of fried rice at the Tampines outlet.

This elderly woman had approached her saying that she "bought extra", and the customer gave her S$6.50 for the "extra" packet. (The stall prices their pork chop fried rice at S$6.50.)

Unfortunately, according to her, the packet turned out to be half-eaten.

The customer also said she had approached the staff at the stall, who told her that they would not be able to replace the packet as it was "her fault".

Responses

Lianhe Wanbao reported that some netizens felt that the customer was being unreasonable to expect the stall to replace the packet of rice.

Some others also highlighted that it seemed like the customer had offered the elderly woman money "out of goodwill", and should not have complained about the incident to the stall.

A similar claim had also been circulated in Facebook group Can Eat! Hawker Food. The post said that there is an "elderly lady who is a scammer" at the Tampines outlet, who would allegedly try to sell customers her "extra packet".

Staff urged people to purchase food from them directly

Lianhe Wanbao spoke to the staff at the outlet, who explained that the stall opened recently to long queues during lunch and dinner hours.

The staff confirmed that there was a customer who requested that her fried rice be replaced. They were told that she had bought the packet of rice from an older woman only to discover that it was half-eaten.

He did not know the woman that the customer was referring to.

The staff also explained that she may have been cheated, and apologised for not being able to replace it as she had not purchased the food from them directly.

In order to ensure that customers do not get cheated or end up with food that is potentially unhygienic, customers are also reminded to purchase food from them directly.
