The Israeli Embassy in Singapore shared a post on Facebook "strongly" condemning recent social media posts that likened the vaccination campaign, and other vaccine-related issues, to the Holocaust.

The Holocaust was a genocide perpetrated by the Nazi regime in Germany, which led to the deaths of 6 million Jews, and 5 million prisoners of war, Romany, homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, and others.

The post said that to compare the obvious health benefits of vaccinations, which have benefited "billions around the world" to the Holocaust is not only in bad taste, but downplays the horrors of the Holocaust itself.

It added, "We urge others to think twice before re-sharing such content – There is no equal for the tragedies that occurred during the Holocaust."

The embassy's post comes a day after local politician Brad Bowyer announced his resignation from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP).

That announcement came a day after Bowyer shared a post referencing the Holocaust on his social media platforms.

In the various comment sections, Bowyer repeatedly referred to the Covid-19 pandemic and Singapore's national vaccination programme in arguments with commenters.

When contacted by Mothership, Bowyer said he chose to share the image related to the Holocaust because he "meant the imagery literally" and claimed, without substantiation, that this "exact path" has been followed before.
