A grandmother in Singapore has personally made the most thoughtful gift this pandemic season, having taken into account new developments, such as the Gates of Hell opening.
Her grandson, the recipient of the gift, then took to Facebook on Aug. 7, 2021 to share what granny made for him: A home-made incense paper mask with adjustable raffia string straps to ensure a snug fit to keep out all sorts of, uh, unwanted and intrusive foreign entities that can disrupt the constitution of one's body.
How grandmother made it
According to the man, the incense paper mask was made without much fanfare.
His grandmother had initially asked for a stapler, which was provided for her without question.
The next thing the grandson knew, she was back with the completed product, which is contoured just like a regular store-bought disposable face mask -- for peace of mind and body.
Talismanic properties
The yellow material of the mask has red words and Chinese talismans printed on it.
Taken together, they should be able to ward off to some degree the virus -- and more.
The man wrote in his post: "My grandma's sense of humour is (literally) out of this world. She asked me for a stapler and I passed it to her without question. She then came back with this incense paper mask."
"In case anyone is wondering, the Gates of Hell open tomorrow. So set up your contact tracing for all the hungry ghosts 🤣🤣🤣"
First day of Hungry Ghost Festival
The first day of the Hungry Ghost Festival falls on Aug. 8, just a day before Singapore celebrates its 56th birthday on Aug. 9.
Celebrations for this national event in 2021 continue to be muted this year, as the country is still fighting to keep Covid-19 at bay.
