NTUC FairPrice has apologised after a minced chicken product was wrongly labelled as pork at its Paya Lebar Quarter outlet.
Minced chicken labelled as pork loin
On Aug. 13, a post was uploaded onto Complaint Singapore's Facebook group page, showing a picture of what appears to be minced chicken with two different labels on it — "Fresh Minced Chicken" and "Pork Loin Slice".
More disconcertingly, the minced chicken was actually halal-certified. The jarring discrepancy led the Facebook user to urge others to be careful when buying meat.
According to the Facebook post, the mislabelled item was found at Paya Lebar Quarter's FairPrice Finest.
The post quickly went viral, garnering over 1,500 shares in less than 24 hours.
NTUC FairPrice apologises
In a Facebook post on the same day, NTUC FairPrice said that it treats this matter “very seriously” and have put in additional processes to prevent such errors from happening again.
“We recognise the sensitivities surrounding such an error and sincerely apologise for any offence caused,” it added.
The supermarket chain also urged customers to approach its staff immediately if they find any labelling discrepancy.
Customers can contact NTUC FairPrice's customer relations hotline at 6552 2722 or its email at [email protected] for further enquiries.
