Mini explosion at Bukit Batok West linked to telco manhole: Amy Khor

A mini explosion occurred in front of a car park entrance near Block 439B of Bukit Batok West Avenue 8 on this morning (Aug. 24).

Flash fire was captured erupting from a manhole by dashcam footage, which bore a 8:40am timestamp.

The witness in the car was on his way to send his son to school, and had to take an alternative route out of the neighbourhood.

In response to Mothership's queries, Chua Chu Kang Town Council and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they were alerted to the case at around 9am.

Mothership understand that no one was hurt during the incident and investigations are ongoing.

Various agencies, including Netlink Trust, Singapore Power, PUB, Housing Development Board were mobilised to render assistance.

Hong Kah North Member of Parliament Amy Khor was also on site to find out more about the incident.

Preliminary investigations uncovered that the flash fire and explosion had occurred in a telco manhole, she added.

The Town Council has also cordoned off the affected lane of the car park entrance for investigations.

Residents are advised to be careful and patient when using the second lane of entry into the car park.

The Town Council will start reinstatement works once it is safe and viable to do so, the statement wrote.
