In the men's shot put F40 final at the Tokyo Paralympics on Aug. 29, Singapore's Muhammad Diroy Noordin broke the national record with a throw of 9.92m.

This throw was also the 29-year-old's personal best.

Broke the national record twice

Diroy's third throw landed at 9.85m, and broke the previous national record of 9.78m, which was also set by him at the Singapore Athletics Performance Trial 2 in June this year, according to Yahoo News.

He would set the national record once again with his sixth and final throw of 9.92m.

Diroy finished 8th out of 9 competitors, he had come in 9th in his Rio 2016 debut, according to MyActiveSG.

His performance on Sunday was also a marked improvement from Rio where he threw 7.29m.

Speaker of Parliament and president of the Singapore National Olympic Council Tan Chuan-Jin congratulated Diroy on his feat:

Gave his performance an 8 out 10

Speaking to media after his event, Diroy shared that he was disappointed that he did not win a medal or surpass the 10m mark, reported The Straits Times.

But he was still happy to have tried his best:

“We put in so much effort and trained hard to go [to the Paralympics] to win a medal but I’m still happy that I did my personal best.

“Out of 10, I give [my performance] around eight.”

Diroy, who has dwarfism, was the Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDC) Sportsman of the Year in 2019, according to MyActiveSG.

He was also the flag-bearer for Singapore at the Paralympic's opening ceremony.
