S'porean man, 63, dies from Covid-19 complications, 5 new clusters reported

A 63 year-old male Singaporean, has passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection on Aug. 5, 2021.

He was Case 67716.

He had developed a fever and cough on Aug. 3 and was conveyed to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital on Aug. 5 after collapsing at home.

He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection after his death.

He had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, and had a history of heart disease, stroke, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hyperlipidaemia, according to the Ministry of Health (MOH).

In total, 41 have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection.

97 new cases reported today

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 97 new cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore as of 12pm on Friday (Aug. 6).

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases reported in Singapore to 65,605.

29 unlinked cases

There are 93 new cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 infection.

Of these cases, 56 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine. Eight are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance.

29 are currently unlinked.

Among the cases is one senior above 70 years who is unvaccinated and at risk of serious illness.

There are four imported cases, who had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

All were detected upon arrival in Singapore.

Progress of vaccination programme

According to MOH, 67 per cent of Singapore's population has been fully vaccinated/received two doses as of Aug. 5, while 78 per cent has received at least one dose.

The total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered under the national vaccination programme is 7,897,570, covering 4,344,183 individuals.

3,677,788 individuals have completed the full vaccination regimen.

In addition, 120,665 doses of Sinovac vaccines have been administered as of Aug. 5, 2021, covering 79,297 individuals.

Five active clusters

There are five new clusters today, bringing the current total to 126 active clusters, ranging between three and 1,134 infections per cluster.

Likely Covid-19 transmission at Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, Chin Swee Road, Tessensohn Road

In an earlier press release, MOH also said it is investigating likely Covid-19 transmission at 237 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5, 51 Chin Swee Road and 683 Tessensohn Road.

Seven cases of Covid-19 infection were detected in four households at 237 Bukit Batok East Avenue 5.

Four cases were detected in four households at 51 Chin Swee Road, and Covid-19 viral fragments were detected in wastewater samples collected from the block.

Eight cases of Covid-19 infection were detected in four households at 683 Tessensohn Road.

Epidemiological investigations are ongoing to determine linkages and the source of transmission, added MOH.

To uncover community infection cases, mandatory Covid-19 testing for all residents, as well as owners and staff of commercial units of these blocks will be carried out between 9am and 4pm on Aug. 7.

Testing is optional for those who have tested negative for Covid-19 infection from Aug. 2 onwards.

Overall trends

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 878 cases in the week before to 671 cases in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 244 cases in the week before to 203 cases in the past week.

The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 66.9 and 29.0 respectively.

Condition of hospitalised cases

546 cases are currently warded in the hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.

There are currently 38 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and seven in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Among these 45 cases, six are fully vaccinated. Of these, five require oxygen supplementation, while one requires ICU care due to underlying medical conditions.

In addition, 35 seniors above the age of 60, of whom 30 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill, said MOH.

Over the last 28 days, 85 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to ICU or passed away.

Of these, 53 are unvaccinated, 24 are partially vaccinated and eight are fully vaccinated.
