S'porean woman, 58, is 39th patient to die from Covid-19 complications in S'pore

She had not been vaccinated and had no underlying medical condition.

A 58-year-old female Singaporean passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection on Aug. 2, 2021.

She was Case 66894.

She was a household contact of a case who had visited Samy’s Curry Restaurant, and was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on July 29.

According to MOH, she had not been vaccinated against Covid-19, and had no underlying medical condition.

In total, 39 have passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

95 new cases reported today

Earlier today, the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 95 new cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore as of 12pm on Wednesday (Aug. 4).

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases reported in Singapore to 65,410.

30 unlinked cases

There are 92 new cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 infection.

Of these cases, 54 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine.

Eight are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance.

30 are currently unlinked.

Amongst the cases is a senior above 70 years who is unvaccinated and is at risk of serious illness.

There are three imported cases, who had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

One was detected upon arrival in Singapore, while two developed the illness during SHN or isolation.

112 active clusters

There are 12 new clusters today, bringing the current total to 112 active clusters, ranging between three and 1,115 infections per cluster.

Overall trends

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 915 cases in the week before, to 758 cases in the past week.

MOH said that Singapore is likely to continue to see a high number of cases in the coming days, as the government steps up efforts to detect them to contain their spread in the community.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 202 cases in the week before to 235 cases in the past week.

The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 74.7 and 33.6 respectively.

Condition of hospitalised cases

555 cases are currently warded in the hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.

There are currently 42 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and seven in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Among these 49 cases, eight are fully vaccinated.

Of these, six require oxygen supplementation, while two require ICU care due to underlying medical conditions.

In addition, 37 seniors above the age of 60, of whom 31 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, have fallen very ill, said MOH.

Over the last 28 days, 77 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to ICU or passed away.

Of the 77, 45 are unvaccinated, 24 are partially vaccinated and eight are fully vaccinated.

Progress of vaccination programme

According to MOH, 64 per cent of Singapore's population has — as of Aug. 3 — been fully vaccinated; 77 per cent has received at least one dose.

The total number of doses of Covid-19 vaccines administered under the national vaccination programme is 7,767,442, covering 4,329,956 individuals.

3,561,452 individuals have completed the full vaccination regimen.

In addition, 113,767 doses of Sinovac vaccines have been administered as of Aug. 3, 2021, covering 76,571 individuals.
