A community cat in Singapore, whose box and blanket were thrown away and ended up sleeping on the cold, hard ground this rainy season, has received a new box and blanket.

The update on the cat's current condition was provided by Nicole Ling, a cat lover who previously provided the blanket for the cat to complement the box provided by another resident, only to discover that both items were removed.

Ling said Gracie has been living in the community for 15 years.

The box and blanket were used by Gracie recently due to the persistent wet weather.

Not feeling well

However, Gracie, appears to be not feeling well.

According to Ling on Aug. 26, she observed that Gracie cried out when she was carried by a student.

She then discovered that the cat was a little bloated and has made an appointment to take her to the veterinary over the weekend.

More publicity for cats in the community

Following publicity of Gracie's plight, Ling was interviewed on a CNA 938 radio programme about what happened.

The interview covered Ling's take on the importance of sterilisation, animal kindness, responsible feeding, and animal abuse.

In response to the recent publicity, Ling wrote that a community project for cats on the island can be set in motion.

She wrote: "Perhaps we need a nation-wide Cat Box House Project 😺 🏠 to show that community cats are part of our lives and society. Let's build more cardboard boxes for our community cats!!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️"
