112 new locally transmitted Covid-19 cases in S'pore, 24 unlinked

40 of the cases are linked to the Bugis Junction cluster.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 116 cases of Covid-19 infection in Singapore as of 12pm on Thursday (Aug. 26).

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore to 66,928.

112 locally transmitted cases

There are 112 locally transmitted cases.

40 of the cases are linked to the Bugis Junction cluster.

Of the remaining 72 cases, 31 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine.

17 are linked to previous cases and were detected through surveillance.

24 cases are currently unlinked.

Cluster at Bugis Junction

A cluster of 20 cases of Covid-19 infection amongst individuals who work in Bugis Junction (200 Victoria Street) was first reported on Aug. 24.

As of Aug. 25, there were 61 cases linked to the cluster, including 51 staff and 10 visitors.

46 of the infected staff members worked at BHG.

The department store is now closed to the public until Aug. 30 (inclusive), to break any potential chain of transmission and enable deep cleaning of the premises

MOH has extended free Covid-19 testing to members of the public who had visited the retail shops or used the services or facilities at Bugis Junction between Aug. 17 and 24.

Four imported cases

There are four imported cases, who have already been placed on Stay Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Three were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while one developed the illness during SHN or isolation.

Further updates will be shared by MOH later this evening.
