The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 98 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore on Monday (Aug. 23), 94 of which were locally-transmitted.

59 of the cases are in a migrant worker dormitory in Woodlands, North Coast Lodge.

This is the highest number of dormitory cases reported in a single day since September 2020.

59 cases linked to North Coast Lodge

The 59 cases linked to North Coast Lodge were detected through testing operations conducted from Aug. 21 after three residents at the dormitory tested positive for Covid-19 infection during their Rostered Routine Testing.

So far, about 2,200 workers have been swabbed, and testing for the rest of the 3,200 residents is ongoing. As a precautionary measure, all residents at the dormitory have been placed on Movement Restriction Order.

The confirmed cases are mostly asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.

19 unlinked cases

Apart from the 59 dormitory cases, 16 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine.

19 cases are currently unlinked.

Amongst the cases are two seniors above 70 who are unvaccinated, and are at risk of serious illness, said MOH.

There are four imported cases, who have already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.

Two were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while two developed the illness during SHN or isolation.

Decrease in unlinked community cases

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 331 cases in the week before to 240 cases in the past week.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 83 cases in the week before, to 101 cases in the past week.

The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 19.9 and 14.4 respectively.

70 active clusters

There are no new clusters today. In total, there are currently 70 active clusters, ranging between three and 1,155 infections.

The 59 new cases in the North Coast Lodge cluster — formerly the Case 68799 cluster — brings the cluster to 62 cases.

One of the new cases belongs to the FairPrice (Kallang Bahru) cluster, for a total of six cases.

Two new cases were added to the My First Skool (54 Chin Swee Road), bringing it to 40 cases.

Condition of hospitalised cases

There are currently 336 cases warded in the hospital.

In addition, there are 21 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and seven in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Of those who have fallen very ill, 22 are seniors above 60 years, of whom 18 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.

An 86-year-old unvaccinated Singaporean woman passed away from complications due to Covid-19 infection on Aug. 23.

There is continuing evidence that almost all fully-vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected, unless if they had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible, MOH said.

Over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 8.8 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.7 per cent.

Progress of vaccination programme

As of Aug. 22, 78 per cent of Singapore's population has completed their full regimen or received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, and 82 per cent has received at least one dose.

MOH has administered a total of 8,588,011 doses of Covid-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme.

This covers 4,477,965 individuals.

4,238,764 individuals have completed the full vaccination regimen.

In addition, 159,438 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organization’s Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered as of Aug. 22, covering 84,982 individuals.

In total, 78 per cent of Singapore's population has completed their full regimen or received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines, and 82 per cent has received at least one dose.
