A 64-year-old male Singaporean has passed away from Covid-19 complications, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (Aug. 18).
The man is the 46th person to have passed away from complications due to Covid-19 in Singapore, and is the ninth Covid-19 fatality this month.
The man was not vaccinated
According to MOH, the man had developed a cough, and was conveyed to Raffles Hospital on Aug. 3, after suffering heart problems.
The man had a history of End Stage Renal Failure, ischaemic cardiomyopathy (heart disease), hypertension (high blood pressure), and hyperlipidaemia (high level of cholesterol or triglycerides in the blood).
He was not vaccinated against Covid-19.
49 locally-transmitted cases
On Aug. 18, MOH has confirmed 49 new cases of Covid-19 in Singapore, bring a total of 66,334 Covid-19 cases in Singapore.
There are 49 new cases of locally-transmitted Covid-19 infection.
30 are linked cases, of whom 23 have already been placed on quarantine, while seven cases were detected through surveillance.
19 are currently unlinked.
In addition, there are four imported cases that were detected and isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
Of these, three were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while one developed the illness during SHN or isolation.
87 active clusters
There is one new cluster today, bringing the current total to 87 active clusters, ranging between three to 1,155 infections per cluster.
Seven clusters have closed.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 448 cases in the past week before, to 316 cases in the past week.
The number of linked cases in the community has also decreased from 125 cases in the week before, to 94 cases in the past week.
The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 31.7 and 13.4 respectively.
Condition of hospitalised cases
402 cases are currently warded in the hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.
There are currently 26 cases of serious illness requiring oxygen supplementation, and six in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Of those who have fallen very ill, 27 are seniors above the age of 60, of whom 22 are completely unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
According to MOH, there is "continuing evidence that almost all fully-vaccinated individuals do not suffer serious disease when infected, unless they had underlying medical conditions that made them more susceptible."
MOH also said that over the last 28 days, the percentage of unvaccinated who became severely ill or died is 8.8 per cent, while that for the fully vaccinated is 1.5 per cent.
Progress of vaccination programme
As of Aug. 17. a total of 8,486,232 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered under the national vaccination programme (Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna), covering 4,447,250 individuals, with 4,170,573 individuals having completed the full vaccination regimen.
In addition, a further 153,020 doses of other vaccines recognised in the World Health Organisation's Emergency Use Listing (WHO EUL) have been administered, covering 84,172 individuals.
In total, 77 per cent of the Singapore population has completed their full regimen, while 82 per cent has received at least one dose.
