While prepping dumpling ingredients
According to SMDN, a manager who declined to be named said that the victim, a woman in her 70s, is an employee of five years.
He shared that the store assistant was handling the processed meat, when she accidentally got her right arm jammed in the machine, resulting in injury.
He added that they had immediately called the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) for help, as they were unable to pry open the machinery.
The manager also rubbished rumours that the assistant's arm had been broken or severed, emphasising that the assistant's arm only bled slightly.
He clarified that the machine her arm had gotten caught in was for meat marination, and did not have blades in it.
She reportedly only sustained minor injuries.
SCDF rescue
In response to queries from Mothership, SCDF said it was alerted to an incident at Blk 161 Bukit Merah Central on Aug. 24, at around 2:05pm.
SCDF added that a woman’s right arm was found trapped in an industrial machine in a unit on the first floor.
According to SMDN, at least four SCDF vehicles, as well as several police officers were spotted on scene.
SCDF said that firefighters from Alexandra Fire Station and SCDF’s elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) subsequently conducted an intricate rescue operation by using cutting equipment.
They were able to free the woman's arm safely within an hour.
Throughout the operation, an SCDF paramedic was also at the scene to constantly monitor her condition.
The woman was conscious when conveyed to Singapore General Hospital, added SCDF.
