Hong Kong Instagram influencer falls to death while taking photo on waterfall trek

An Instagram influencer in Hong Kong plunged to her death after she lost her footing while hiking.

According to HK01, 32-year-old Sophia Cheung was hiking near Tsing Dai Stream on Saturday (July 10) with some friends.

They had set off for the hike at 11am that day.

Lost her footing and fell down

However, at around 5pm, Cheung was believed to have slipped while taking a photo and subsequently fell into the five-metre deep pool below, reported HK01.

Her friends immediately called the emergency services.

When first responders arrived on the scene and rescued her, she was found to be unresponsive.

Cheung was then transported via helicopter to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Chai Wan, where she was pronounced dead.

Well-known for daredevil behaviour

Cheung regularly shared photos of her everyday life on Instagram, which has over 8,000 followers.

She had previously travelled to Sunset Peak, Tai To Yan, and Pineapple mountain in Hong Kong, and was an avid hiker.

She is well-known for scenic Instagram posts featuring daredevil behaviour.

Cheung's latest Instagram was on July 9. She was seen sitting on a beach with a bodyboard.

The picture was accompanied with the caption: "Better Days are coming. They are called: Saturday and Sunday."
